October in San Miguel de Allende

Temperatures

Temperatures during the first half of October are still in the low 80’s and they move down into the 70’s as the month draws to a close, with nighttime temperatures in the mid to low 60’s.  It’s unusual to have rain showers in October.  Most often it’s a month of bright blue skies and marks the real end of the ‘rainy season’ leaving gardens in full flower and fields of wild flowers, plus crops of zempeculitz (marigolds) to be harvested for sale the last week of October for Day of the Dead.

What to Watch For

October is a beautiful month in San Miguel.  The town has just finished it’s huge ‘Celebrations of September” – Independence Day (September 16th) and the ‘birthday’ celebrations of the town’s Patron Saint, San Miguel (Saint Michael) the Archangel (September 29th), which have been a frenzy of public events, parties and fireworks.  Art exhibitions open, plays in English are presented, music begins with the ‘Pro-Musica’ cultural and classical music series almost every-other weekend.  Days are perfect for walks in the Botanical Garden, golf, tennis, horseback riding, or walking and shopping in town.

Special Dates

September 29th to October 1st – Town Patron Saint’s Day Saint Michael – San Miguel (Celebration moves to the nearest weekend which can fall in early October) marks the arrival of Indians with Xuchiles, conchero dancers, bullfights and firework castillos (towers).
October 10th – Feast of San Francisco with fireworks at San Francisco Church
October 31st – Halloween celebrated in nightclubs and kids dress up and ‘trick-or’ treat’ at the Jardin (town square).
