Walk 1 info

An easy, level ‘around-the-block(s)’ walk to orient yourself to a portion the Western side of the city which includes many good shops. Estimated to take about one hour with shopping and sightseeing. Historic sites: The Biblioteca and other protected architecture from the 18th century on route.

Begin in front of the Jardín, the charming town square and its landmark church, "La Parroquia". La Parroquia simply means parish church. Zeferino Gutiérrez, an indigenous mason, oversaw the creation of this unique - in all of México - pseudo-gothic design that was finished during the early 19th century as a modification to the original church built in 1564. Learn more about the town's history on the Patronato Pro Niños Walking Tour given in English from this starting point Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:45 a.m. On this route you'll visit the Biblioteca, home of the Sunday House and Garden Tour, and find Harry's for gumbo and martinis. Rossbeck Mar Galeria and Sofia' Boutique also beckon.
